Sarah Lucas (*1962 in London, UK) setzt sich in ihrem Werk kritisch-humorvoll mit Aspekten des menschlichen Körpers und seinen gesellschaftlichen Zuschreibungen auseinander. Geprägt von radikaler Formensprache hinterfragt sie in ihren Fotografien, Skulpturen und Installationen soziale Normen und Geschlechter-stereotype. Oft finden Alltagsgegenstände und -sprache Eingang in ihr Werk, die sie spielerisch in neue Bedeutungszusammenhänge stellt und grundlegende Themen der Skulptur erkundet. In ihrer ersten institutionellen Ausstellung in Deutschland seit 2005 bringt Lucas Werke aus fast vier Dekaden künstlerischen Schaffens zusammen. Diese reichen von frühen Arbeiten der 1990er-Jahre bis hin zu jüngst entstandenen Werken, in denen sie Fragestellungen des Körperlichen im sozialen Feld weiterentwickelt. In her first institutional exhibition in Germany since 2005, Lucas brings together works from almost four decades of artistic creation. These range from early objects from the 1990s to recent works in which she further develops questions of the corporeal in the social field. Sarah Lucas studied at Goldsmiths College, among others, and was associated with the Young British Artists group in the 1990s. In 2015, she exhibited at the British Pavilion at the Venice Biennale and was the subject of a major retrospective, AU NATUREL, at The New Museum in New York in 2018. A survey exhibition HAPPY GAS recently at Tate Britain in London 2023-24. Today she is considered one of the most influential artists in the UK and internationally. Curator: Luisa Heese. Contemporary Fine Arts Basel freut sich mit BUNNY RABBIT die erste Einzelausstellung von SARAH LUCAS in unserer neuen Baseler Galerie zeigen zu können. In der historischen Altstadt, im Totengässlein 5, direkt neben dem Pharmaziemuseum werden wir am Montag, 10. Juni 2024 von 18 – 21 Uhr eröffnen. Zur ART BASEL ist die Galerie von Dienstag, 11. Juni bis Freitag, 14. Juni von 9 – 21 Uhr geöffnet. Samstag, 15. Juni und Sonntag, 16. Juni von 11 – 18 Uhr. Wir freuen uns auf ihren Besuch.

Located in the historic old town at Totengässlein 5, right next to the Pharmacy Museum, we will celebrate the opening on Monday, 10 June, 2024, from 6 – 9 PM. During ART BASEL, the gallery will be open at the following times: Tuesday, 11 June to Friday, 14 June, from 9 AM – 9 PM, Saturday, 15 June and Sunday, 16 June, from 11 AM – 6 PM.
